Harnessing the Power of AWS: Trackpac’s Extension into S3 for a Greener, More Efficient Future
At Trackpac, innovation is in our DNA. We’ve always leveraged AWS Serverless to offer agile, efficient, and on-demand services to our users. Today, we’re thrilled to announce our latest stride in this journey: the integration of Amazon S3 for optimal storage of LoRaWAN sensor data.
Extending Our Serverless Footprint with AWS
From the onset, our architecture has been constructed atop AWS’s robust suite of services. By utilising AWS API Gateway, CloudFront, S3, SES, SNS, and Route53, we’ve effectively built a serverless ecosystem that reaps the benefits of:
1. Cost Efficiency: We’re billed only for the actual compute time consumed, eliminating idle resource costs and maximising savings.
2. Scalability: The architecture, especially with the scalability of services like API Gateway and CloudFront, ensures we can handle varying loads, delivering consistent performance during both lulls and peaks.
3. Eco-friendliness: The managed nature of these services means reduced continuous running of underutilised servers. This translates to lower energy consumption, reflecting our eco-conscious ethos.
Embracing Amazon S3: A New Chapter
While traditional databases have served their purpose, they often come with overhead costs, require intensive maintenance, and frequently allocate underutilised resources.
With Amazon S3, we’re pivoting to a solution that is:
1. Cost-Effective: We’re billed only for what we utilise, avoiding the provisioning of excess storage or compute power. We pass these cost savings onto our users enabling scale for business at a much larger volume than previously possible.
2. Fast: Swift and efficient data retrieval enhances our application’s responsiveness. Checkout this clip of a device loading nearly 30 days of data.
3. Durable and scaleable: S3 ensures data remains protected, integral, and readily available. S3 is more than just an AWS service too, it’s and endpoint type for many modern services that support it, data can be stored on decentralised providers.
4) Easy to use: We fetch LoRaWAN sensor frames using a simple API call with a deviceID passed in and a timeframe, this simplifies the retrial and usage down to just one API call. In the background our API combines S3 objects for your selected date range into one json object for use.
5. Eco-friendly: Requiring significantly less energy than conventional databases, our S3 integration intensifies our commitment to sustainability.
Why This Matters
Having always anchored our platform in AWS Serverless, our new venture into Amazon S3 is a testament to our dedication to continuous improvement. The pivot is groundbreaking: We can now provide years of LoRaWAN sensor storage at the same price point many might offer for just two or three months.
This integration with S3 is more than a technological enhancement — it’s a statement of our ongoing mission to merge unparalleled service with environmental responsibility. As we store data, we also aim to conserve energy, reducing our carbon footprint and leading the digital realm towards a greener horizon.
In Conclusion
At Trackpac, we don’t just adapt to the future; we shape it. As we integrate S3 into our existing Serverless foundation, we reaffirm our commitment to offering both top-notch service and sustainable solutions. Together, we envision a future where technology and responsibility walk hand in hand.
Thank you for being with us on this journey. The best is yet to come.
